How to buy a converter box at eBay

With the government converter box coupon program now over, consumers may be happy to learn that the auction website, eBay, offers many new and used converter boxes for between $10-$25. The rules on eBay have tightened greatly over the years and there are a number of procedures in place to help protect the buyer and reward reputable sellers.

In order to bid on a converter box or sell an item, you will first have to sign up for eBay. Just go to ebay.com, click the ‘register’ button and fill out the form. You must be 18 and agree to their terms and conditions. Along with your name and address, you must provide your phone number, birthday, and email address. When registering, you’ll also need to select a unique username and password.

Once your registration is complete, you can go searching for products. Use the search bar at the top and type ‘converter boxes’ or the specific model # if you know it.

Buyer Beware
When you find the item you are interested in, please be sure to review the seller. You can do this by looking at their name on the right hand side of the page to review their seller history and ratings. If you click on their username, you’ll be able to view their statistics, read previous buyer feedback, and see just how long they’ve been selling. I recommend a thorough review, especially for any negative comments.

Bidding
If you like what you see, you can place a bid for the converter box. Please note that when placing a maximum bid, eBay will only use the lowest number if no other competing bids were placed. For instance, if an auction for a converter box is at $15 and you place a maximum bid of $20, eBay will automatically put your bid in at $15.25 until someone comes along and bids $16.00. Since your bid is $20, a competing bidder will have to bid on the converter box all the way up to that number to beat your bid. Some buyers don’t like to put in their maximum up front. You can also ‘watch this item’ to keep tabs on it, if you aren’t ready to make a bid at the moment. Just click the “Watch this item” button located under the bidding box.

If your bid is the highest at the close of the auction, you’ll be notified. You just need to follow the instructions in the notification. After you pay, the seller should promptly mail the item to you.

If you are new to eBay and auction sites, it’s highly recommended to read the ‘how to’ FAQs. At the top of most pages, eBay has a tab that says ‘BUY’ on it, and if you click that, you can learn how to navigate the system.

That’s all there is to it. Remember, no matter where you shop, buy smart.
